1. Production of crystal oscillators

 Crystal oscillators

Using the technology of thick film hybrid circuits as well as the surface mount technology the company manufactures crystal oscillators which are used as highly accurate and stable frequency sources e.g. in telecommunication, military and measuring equipment as well as computers.

The strong points for HC electronics as far as production of oscillators is concerned are as follows:
  • customer may choose very preciously specified frequency within the frequency range
  • possibility to produce oscillator with parameters modified based on the customer's requirements
  • short delivery times
  • possibility to make even a single oscillator
  • favorable price
  • high quality of oscillators ensured by technologies used and burning-in
  • you can consult your needs with us free of charge and we will be glad to recommend you a suitable type of oscillator

2. Classification of oscillators and their use

 OCXO oscillators

a)   OCXO - Oven Controlled Crystal Oscillator
These are the most stable oscillators for use in the most demanding applications with the requirement of the highest temperature stability. They have higher power consumption and dimensions.
They are frequently used in radio and television transmitters and translators, in precious measuring instruments and in military equipment.

b)   TCXO - Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator
These are stable oscillators with low power consumption and smaller dimensions. They are suitable for mobile equipment requiring higher stability. They are used e.g. in portable radio devices, computers and measuring instruments.

c)   MXO - Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator
These oscillators are characterized with their good frequency stability, small dimensions, low power consumption, low prices. They are suitable for example to small portable devices.

 CXO oscillators

d)   CXO - Crystal Clock Oscillator
These are oscillators with TTL output and low price suitable for use e.g. in computers and measuring instruments.

e)   VCXO - Voltage Controlled Crystal Oscillator
This is temperature compensated and voltage controlled crystal oscillator with a high pullability.

f)   Crystal Clock Oscillators in SMD Package (CXO-SMD)
Crystal clock oscillators in SMD package are suitable for use in ADSL and XDSL modems, PLL circuits, FM modulators, measuring devices atc.

g)   Voltage Controlled Crystal Oscillators in SMD Package (VCXO-SMD)

4. Catalogue sheets terms

Nominal frequency - oscillator frequency, which must lie in fixed range and which can be randomly changed in this range.

Supply current at switch on - in case of OCXO oscillators on switch on after ca 2 to 10 minutes according to the oscillator type it is necessary to warm up the thermostat on operating temperature. The oscillator takes higher supply current during this time.

Frequency stability with temperature - set the maximal frequency changes in fixed temperature range. It will be set in ppm, also in millionth of nominal frequency of oscillator.

Frequency stability with supply voltage - set how can be the nominal frequency changed in case of supply voltage change in the range fixed at supply voltage. It will be set in ppm.

Pulling voltage - it is possible to fine-tune the nominal frequency of oscillator with connection of voltage to one its outlet (marked V ctrl) at most of oscillators. At some oscillator it is possible to use steady voltage of the lead which is marked Out Uref for pulling voltage setting.

Mechanical frequency adjustment - it is possible to fine-tune with tuner the oscillator nominal frequency at some of oscillators.

Minimal frequency adjustment - means minimal change of nominal frequency which can be reached in the whole pulling voltage range or through mechanical adjustment.

Warm-up time - in case of OCXO oscillators. Time necessary for oscillator warming up to operating temperature.

Frequency offset - stated on the oscillator plate sets the operating frequency shift from nominal frequency at the temperature of 25°C. The frequency symmetrical offset in fixed temperature range to nominal frequency is secured with that.
